Katy Perry is making a statement at this Sunday’s Grammy awards. She has invited a domestic violence survivor to to read a written-word piece while she performs “By The Grace of God” on stage, according to People.

Grammy producer Ken Erlich came up with the idea after meeting with White House officials last year. He felt it was a good platform to make people aware of the problem.

Activist and domestic abuse survivor Brooke Axtell said: “It’s an honor to collaborate with Katy in this way. She has been very devoted to various aspects of female empowerment. It’s going to bring a lot of encouragement and freedom to those who hear my story and know that they are not alone in this.

“It has been deeply interconnected to my recovery process to be very vocal. There is still such a stigma about being transparent about this kind of struggle and survivors have nothing to be ashamed of. I believe that when we bring all our fear and shame into the light, that is when we find healing and freedom.”

Perry impressed fans and non-fans alike at the Super Bowl half-time show last weekend, and although her upcoming performance will be more sober, it will certainly be empowering.
