Graceland

USA’s Graceland is back this Thursday with more undercover suspense, and if you thought the season two finale was surprising, you haven’t seen anything yet. We checked in with series star Manny Montana to discuss what fans are in for during season three, and what it’s been like for him to continue playing FBI agent Johnny Tuturro.

SPOILER ALERT: If you’re not caught up on Graceland, this interview contains spoilers for the season two finale, which is still available via USA on Demand.

Season two was pretty tough for Johnny, who spent most of the run embedded with psychopathic drug dealer Carlito Solano (Erik Valdez) – and falling for Carlito’s sister Lucia (Jamie Gray Hyder). When viewers are reintroduced to him, he hasn’t gone that far.

“You kind of find him right where we left off. He’s still under with Carlito,” Manny explained, “and he’s trying to get Lucia back…He wants to get her back and out of the life.”

But don’t assume that they’ll be riding off into the sunset. Get a look at what season three has in store for Johnny, and everyone at Graceland, in the teaser trailer below.

He’s not the only one who has a lot on the line; everyone went through the wringer at the end of the season, leaving the fans wondering how the task force would possibly recover from all of it – and they weren’t the only ones. “That was my first question to the writers when we met,” said Manny. “I was wondering how the house was going to stay intact.”

While Graceland will continue to up the stakes in season three, equally of note is how the ongoing pressure continues to transform the characters. It’s not just about busting bad guys. Manny has done some of the best work of his career in playing Johnny, and he’s going to mix things up again this season.

“[In the] first season, Johnny was very light and comical and funny,” he reflected, before the FBI agent got serious when he got mixed up with the Solanos. But Johnny in season three will be a combination of the two sides we’ve seen so far. While he’s still taking his situation seriously, Manny explained that in some ways, “he goes back to being the Johnny that he was.”
