People have long believed that Pretty Little Liars is a “scary” show, but I call bull. Pretty Little Liars is a lot of things—nonsensical, campy, ridiculous, etc.—but it’s never been actually terrifying. Maybe this is because I have a high tolerance for horror. Maybe I’m dead inside. Or maybe I’m right! Sorry, thrill-seekers, but there isn’t anything horrifying about four beautiful 20-somethings rolling their eyes for 40 straight minutes while dodging the occasional text message from a restricted number. (Sidebar: Is that a real thing? Can you send texts from a blocked number? Or is this just some pixie-dust malarkey concocted by I. Marlene King—the same kind that enables 23-year-old Hanna Marin to afford first-class airfare? Give me answers, people!)

Back to my main point, though: PLL is not scary—well, until now. (By now, I mean 11:15 P.M. last night, but that’s just splitting Aria Montgomery’s hairs!)

Freeform dropped a new trailer for the final season of Pretty Little Liars on Tuesday night (January 3), and it’s making me cook, eat, and digest all of my words. Why? Because this ish is frightening! Like, genuinely eerie. And that’s saying a lot coming from someone who watched The Exorcist by himself and was in his ninth dream 15 minutes after it ended.

I’m not exaggerating, I swear! Freeform gussied up this new PLL teaser with suspenseful music, foreboding looks from all the PLL girls, and a diabolical voiceover monologue from Mona that makes The Shining twinscreepy mantra sound like a schoolyard chant. (“Come play with us” quite literally becomes, well, “Come play with us.” That’s the chilling power of Mona Effing Vanderwaal, my friends.)

So many frights are stuffed into this 30-second clip. Emily skulks down a hallway while wielding a candlestick! Spencer hastily (eh?!) breaks some weird object! Hanna slowly opens a door and takes a dramatic pause! A dramatic pause! When did Freddy Krueger ever?

Peep the teaser in the tweet, below:

All jokes aside, I’m spooked. This new spot confirms what I’ve always thought: The call from “A” is coming from inside the house.

Season 7B of Pretty Little Liars premieres April 18 on Freeform.
