Jennifer Lopez offered an emotional tribute to Selena Quintanilla at the Billboard Latin Music Awards, 20 years after the Tejano pop star’s tragic death. Alongside the Quintanilla family band, Los Dinos, the singer and actress who became a star herself for portraying Selena on film sang and danced her way through a bilingual medley of Nineties hits.

Within the seven-minute medley, Lopez sang bits of “Como La Flor,” “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” “Amor Prohibido,” “I Could Fall in Love,” and “No Me Queda Mas.” Along with donning a variety of costumes reminiscent of Selena’s sparkly, flamboyant stage fashion, she also mimicked some of the late star’s stage moves. She ended her set side-by-side with the Quintanilla family, including Selena’s sister Suzette and brother A.B. who were part of Los Dinos.

While starring in 1997’s Selena, Lopez did not record any covers of the film subject’s songs. Instead, Quintanilla’s actual recordings were used while the actress lip-synced to the tracks. Since then, however, Lopez has covered Selena live numerous times, especially since finding success with her own music career in the wake of the film’s achievements.

Recently, the Quintanilla family announced that they would be pursuing a Selena hologram that would tour and release new music on behalf of the singer. They launched an IndieGoGo on what would have been Selena’s 44th birthday and have raised nearly $ 9,000 of their $ 500,000 goal. With an estimated launch year of 2018, the family is hopeful that this project will help keep her memory alive. “It’s not about replacing Selena in any shape, way or form,” her sister Suzette told Billboard. “It’s just something to help her legacy continue growing.”
