Another week, a different #1 album – isn’t that how the old saying goes? After Alabama Shakes topped the Billboard 200 last week, this week country band Zac Brown Band takes over the top spot.  Unsurprisingly, Zac Brown Band did work, as Jekyll + Hyde impacted to the tune of 228,000 units, with nearly 94% of those ‘units’ being sales.  There was never any doubt that Zac Brown Band would come out on top as the closest competition, Josh Groban’s Stages, lands at #2 with 180,000 units, with nearly all of those comprising of sales.  So in essence, the Billboard 200 is top-heavy this week.

Zac Brown Band and Josh Groban aren’t the only newbies to join the Billboard 200.  Another country act, Tyler Farr brings his talents to #4 with Suffer In Peace, though sales don’t compare to the aforementioned ‘juggernauts’ of this week’s chart.  Still, Farr’s album marks the last new album to land in the top five or top 10.  Go Tyler, go Tyler GO!!!

So with Zac Brown Band, Josh Groban, and Tyler Farr as the only new efforts, that means the rest of the top 10 are leftovers.  Among those is the unstoppable Furious 7 soundtrack at #3 and last week’s chart topper Alabama Shakes’ Sound & Color, falling to #7 two weeks in.  Alabama Shakes may not be taking a victory lap over second week sales, but compared to the tumble that former chart topper Shawn Mendes took with Handwritten (#1 to #17), Brittany Howard and company should still be beaming.

On the Billboard Hot 100, who’s got the hottest song in the country? Wiz Khalifa of course as “See You Again” continues to keep the top spot warm.  How long can Wiz keep it going? Who knows as another rap effort looks poised to steal #1 as soon as the opportunity is there for the taking. That would be Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen.” There are others on the rise as well, but would it be shocking to see “Trap Queen” top?

Next week, the charts should experience the biggest boost it’s seen in a long time – at least on paper.  Multiple albums by notable artists dropped to open May with some vigor.  The likely #1 album has to be Mumford & SonsWilder Mind.  Mumford & Sons previous album Babel sold 600,000 copies its first week to secure the #1 spot. Mumford & Sons aren’t the only act to bring the heat.  New albums dropped from Ciara (Jackie), Tech N9ne(Special Effects), My Morning Jacket (The Waterfall), and ever-popular compilation Now 54 among others.  Still, everyone knows Marcus Mumford and band are the ones to beat!
